HAIL-Q · the science, the AI problem and the measurement opportunity
01
AI does not remove human error.
It can amplify it.
The emerging organisational risk is not simply hallucination. It is senior people accepting, enforcing and scaling faulty machine logic.
- 01
An executive asks the wrong question.
The framing carries a hidden assumption.
- 02
The model produces a plausible answer.
Polished, confident, fast.
- 03
The answer confirms the assumption.
Confirmation bias operates outside awareness.
- 04
The organisation acts faster.
The cost of each pass around the loop has collapsed.
- 05
The error spreads further.
A loop amplifies. A slightly bad loop does not produce slightly bad output.
Previously the human used software. Now the human operates inside intelligent loops.
The unit of performance has changed
The measurement
02
HAIL-Q™
Human × AI Performance Quotient
HAIL-Q measures the quality of the human inside the loop: how effectively a person, a team and an organisation perceive, compute and act with intelligent systems. It establishes where capability begins, where the constraints are, and whether an intervention changes the result.
P1 does not certify attendance. It measures change.
Level 01Individual
Perception, computation, calibration and judgement with intelligent systems.
Level 02Team
Shared information, aligned decisions, closed loop communication, execution.
Level 03Enterprise
Conversion of technology capability into human and commercial performance.
HAIL-Q is not a personality test, an engagement survey, a prompt course or a generic AI readiness score. It is the central nervous system of the P1 learning environment, integrated into every laboratory, simulation and participant journey.
Provenance
03
The science was built inside Formula 1 long before AI made it urgent.
Dr Kerry Spackman’s foundational model treats the elite performer as a computing machine inside a control loop. Perception feeds computation, computation feeds output, the result feeds back. Performance is multiplicative: in the car, vehicle × human; in the enterprise, technology × the human inside the loop.
- 01
Driver in the Loop
Formula 1 simulation and driver performance. Performance = vehicle × human.
- 02
Human in the Loop
Elite cognition: calibration, perception of fine detail, learning that keeps moving the ceiling.
- 03
Human × AI Loop
The executive inside the AI’s loop; the organisation as a loop of loops.
- 04
HAIL-Q
Measure how effectively the human performs inside it.
Why a Formula 1 team already operates in this world
The car, simulator, telemetry, optimisation software and data systems generate extraordinary intelligence. Championship performance still depends on humans perceiving, interpreting, deciding, communicating and executing under pressure. Formula 1 is an unusually powerful environment in which to make HAIL-Q tangible.
Evidence architecture
The underlying programme includes double blind calibration research, a documented factor framework and a remeasurement method. Specific study results and figures are held for verified disclosure in the partner rooms and are not reproduced here.
Measured against what? One championship organisation.
